NHL Leader in Average Ice-Time

We’ve become accustomed in recent years to the likes of Erik Karlsson or Ryan Suter logging more average ice-time per game than any other player. Early in 2016-17, Winnipeg Jets D Dustin Byfuglien leads the NHL surprisingly. [Yahoo Sports]

Tasha St. Pierre over at Bolts by the Bay discusses how Valtteri Filppula is stepping up in 2016-17 to prove his worth. It’s good timing since some fans were likely growing uncomfortable with the idea of forced protection in expansion due to a no-movement clause. [Bolts by the Bay]

Halloween Costume Ideas

The folks over at CBC constructed a nice compilation of NHL costume ideas. These are pictures mostly from 2017 including the likes of Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, Aaron Ekblad, and Erik Karlsson (among others) [CBC]

Avs Should be Proud of 1st Week

Ross Sellers over at Mile High Sticking looks back to review the week that was to open the year. As he points out, the Colorado Avalanche should be very proud of their early success that began way back in the preseason. [Mile High Sticking]

What We Learned This Past Week

The Los Angeles Times put a list together of the things we learned over the past week. It includes the ever-growing danger of being an NHL goaltender with mounting injuries and Detroit not looking ready to give up their 25-year playoff streak. [Los Angeles Times]

Russian Factor Alive for Canucks Tryamkin

Janik Beichler over at The Canuck Way discusses how the “Russian Factor” is still a thing for the 6’7 defender. He’s currently spending a lot of time in the press box and if they can’t get him into the lineup soon, Europe is a real possibility since it’s well known he won’t report to the AHL if asked. NHL Daily Morning Rant

Sportsnet’s Luke Fox released a list of 7 potential goalies the Los Angeles Kings could target. I’ve also recently released a similar list with the obvious candidates. As we know though, LA has very little cap space to work with.

While this isn’t an ideal route, GM Dean Lombardi could roll the dice on a young unproven netminder. Worst case scenario, it doesn’t work out. Best case, you have an extra enticing option at the expansion draft/or trade option later on in the season if Quick returns before the deadline.

Top 5 Young Unproven Netminders:

Malcolm Subban, BOS
Joonas Korpisalo, CLB (returning from injury)
Laurent Brossoit, EDM
Zachary Fucale, MTL
Jean-Francois Berube, NYI
