  • Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak has been sidelined with an injury since last weekend’s game versus Colorado. Listed day-to-day, it sounds as though the 20-year-old is ready to make his return. It’s a welcomed addition back into the lineup after posting 14 points in 14 games to start 2016-17. Bjugstad Nearing Return for Panthers

Florida Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad has been sidelined with a broken hand since the start of 2016-17. It sounds like he’s nearing his season debut after missing the first five weeks of the season. Bjugstad had 15 goals (34 points) in 2015-16. [NBC Sports]

Vanek Won’t be Red Wings Savior

Thomas Vanek insisted he will not be the Detroit Red Wings savior upon return after an 11-game absence. He was quoted saying “I’m not here to save anything” to Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings official website. [The Score]

    Ilya Sorokin Dominating in KHL

Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Jean-Francois Berube? Forget all three Isles goalies. The real future between the pipes is Ilya Sorokin, and has been for a while now. As Matt O’Leary explains, Sorokin is once again continuing his dominance in the KHL. [Eyes on Isles]

    NHL Daily Morning Rant

The last story gave me a new idea for my daily rant. I do try to keep up with international hockey as much as possible. The KHL is a little easier to do so given their excellent online coverage. I’ll update the list periodically throughout the year, but here are my five potential impact NHLers of the future coming out of Russia:

    1. G Ilya Sorokin, CSKA Moskva (24gp 1.40GAA .936 Save Percentage) – 3rd round (78th overall) to NYI in 2013
    2. F Vladimir Tkachyov, Admiral Vladivostok (30gp 11g 14a 25pts) – Undrafted 21-year-old (Spent some time in the QMJHL)
    3. F Kirill Kaprizov, Salavat Yulaev Ufa (30gp 12g 14a 26pts) – 5th round (135th overall) to MIN in 2015
    4. F Yegor Korshkov, Lokomotiv Yaroslav (30gp 4g 11a 15pts) – 2nd round (31st overall) to TOR in 2016
    5. F Pavel Krashovsky, Lokomotiv Yaroslav (30gp 5g 4a 9pts) – 6th round (164th overall) to WPG in 2014
