NHL Fantasy Waiver Wire: A Look at Who to Add/Drop in Week 7, Including Top Players of the Week and Key Injuries

We’re back with week seven’s NHL fantasy waiver wire. Hockey pools are always fun to participate in, whether you’re winning or losing, the idea of being in control of your own NHL team is always exciting. Even if you’re ahead of your pool, there are still ways to make sure you maintain the lead every week. The same goes if you’re near the bottom, there’s also a way to start climbing up the standings. And coming here is a good place to start!

Last week, we showed you the top three players to add at each position for a Yahoo type of pool. This week, we’re going to bump that number up to six each. Yahoo pools mainly focus only on the essentials like goals, assists, plus/minus, wins, losses and shutouts. ESPN type pools, however, can focus on a whole range of statistical categories, making adding and dropping much harder, (unless one of your players is hurt for a long period of time).

Connor McDavid has been on an absolute tear in the NHL since day one. It’s easy to assume that he’s going to lead the league this year in points.

That means if he is on your fantasy team, you’re in a great position – and no matter what someone tries to offer you, however sweet the deal may seem, don’t take it. He may not hit a lot or get in front of many shots, but his shot attempts plus point totals will make up for those easily.

Top Defenseman of the Week: Brent Burns (SJ)

Like McDavid, Burns has been doing much of the same for San Jose, showing everyone he’s worth that new eight-year deal. Burns is more than likely going to be the highest scoring defenseman this season. And what’s even better is he also blocks shots and accumulates a lot of hits. That means if you’re in a pool that counts every statistic, Burns is one of the best players to have. If you don’t have him and want to improve your record, you may have to pay a premium price to acquire him.

Top Goalie of the Week: Carey Price (MTL)

The best goalie in the NHL is also the best netminder of the week. Carey’s numbers are outstanding, and they are just gonna get better. He has a fairly solid offensive/defensive team in front of him, which means a lot of wins, shutouts, plus an amazing save percentage and goals-against-average.
