NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Letting You Know Which Players You Should Add/Drop Heading Into Week 9, Complete Injury Update, Players of the Week, and More!

Welcome back to our weekly NHL Fantasy Hockey waiver wire, three new players have taken over the reigns as players of the week. And there’s also some new players to add to your pool for all three formats. There is also some new injuries listed as well as players on cold streaks, so anything you need to know is right here.

Like always, we’re here to help you gain the most out of your hockey pool. Most pools consist of a weekly total before being reset. So, it’s best to maximize your scoring during that week to either stay in the lead or try to climb the standings. The toughest part is always releasing players, but if you’re in a pool that isn’t very active, you can take those chances.

If you’re in a pool that everyone is involved in daily, at least keep your star players even if they’re going through a cold streak, so they’re not picked up when you release them.

Top Forward of the Week: LW Taylor Hall (NJ) – (4GP, 3G, 5A, 8PTS)
Taylor Hall played amazing last week and seems to be getting better in his new home in Jersey. He may have a cold streak here and there but he’s still a top 10 player in the league, so no matter what, do not get rid of him. If you do, however, make sure the return is of equal value so you’re not missing out on the numbers he’s likely to produce this season.

This applies if you wish to acquire him from someone else, just don’t give away too much, usually star-for-star trades work, but make sure you do your research and see who is going to have the better year so you come out on top of the deal.

Top Defenseman of the Week: D Erik Karlsson (OTT) – (3GP, 3G, 5A, 8PTS)
Erik Karlsson is also starting to find his footing this season which is perfect for anyone who owns him. If you do not own him, the same rules apply as to what we mentioned for Taylor Hall, just make sure you are coming out ahead. Because after all, that’s the purpose of playing NHL fantasy pools. If you cannot acquire him, however, there are still some solid defenseman in the free agent pool who you could take a shot on to help you gain more points this upcoming week.

Next: NHL Power Rankings: Week 9

Top Goalie of the Week: G Steve Mason (PHI) – (4GP, 4W, .926SV%, 2.45GAA)
Steve Mason has played a lot of up and down hockey the last two months, but things seem to be staying in the upward direction. This is a good sign because he’s been dropped more than added, so chances are he’s in your free agent pool.

So if you need a goalie to help you gather some wins this following week, take a shot on him. He’s not much of a star-like goalie anymore so if you have nothing but star goalies, ignore this. But if you have a star goalie and the rest being depth goalies, drop one and scoop him up before someone else does!
