In an interesting move on Monday, the New York Islanders signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a three-year extension. This basically ends speculation as to who the Isles will look to protect in expansion, leaving Jean-Francois Berube exposed. [Eyes on Isles]

Report: Barclays Center to End Partnership with Islanders

According to Bloomberg’s Scott Soshnick, the Barclays Center may be looking to cut ties with the Islanders following the season. He cites someone close to the family finances, who reportedly believes the arena will generate more money between the Brooklyn Nets and stage concerts/events. [The Score]

    Rangers Give Vigneault 2-Year Extension

Announced late Monday night, the New York Rangers have handed coach Alain Vigneault a two-year extension. For those outside of the fan base, let’s just say the head coach isn’t the most popular figure, and as Brandon Cohen over at Blue Line Station phrases it, “the NY Rangers have signed their death certificate tonight”. Second Half Questions

ESPN put together an interesting list of second half questions. For example, they wonder if this year’s Cup Champion will be a first-time winner, if the young superstars (i.e. Patrik Laine/Auston Matthews, etc.) can help end Canada’s playoff drought, and wonder whether Bruce Boudreau is in line for his first Stanley Cup (among many others). Avs Looking to Sign Mironov

Reports have surfaced that the Colorado Avalanche are looking to sign 2015 4th round defender Andrei Mironov. The Russian blueliner is on an expiring deal with Dynamo Moskva of the KHL and has been a standout force over the last few years. [Mile High Sticking]

    NHL Daily Morning Rant

Since we’re coming out of the All-Star break to start the unofficial second half, I wanted to roll out my prediction for how the regular season standings might play out over the final 30 to 36 games for each team. The race in the Eastern Conference is particularly interesting with all 16 teams still technically in the hunt.

Instead of projecting all 30 teams, I’m going to focus on the playoff hunt picking the top three teams in each division, plus two wild-card teams in each conference:

    Eastern Conference

    Atlantic

    1. Ottawa Senators (102 points)
    2. Montreal Canadiens (100 points)
    3. Toronto Maple Leafs (95 points)

    Metropolitan

    1. Washington Capitals (113 points)
    2. Pittsburgh Penguins (104 points)
    3. Columbus Blue Jackets (100 points)

    EC Wild-Card

1WC. New York Rangers (96 points)
    2WC. Boston Bruins (94 points)

In this scenario, first round match-ups would include: WSH vs. BOS, OTT vs. NYR, MTL vs. TOR, and PIT vs. CLB

Next: Hypothetical Deals for Kevin Shattenkirk

    Western Conference

    Central

    1. Chicago Blackhawks (109 points)
    2. Minnesota Wild (108 points)
    3. Nashville Predators (98 points)

    Pacific

    1. San Jose Sharks (105 points)
    2. Anaheim Ducks (99 points)
    3. Edmonton Oilers (96 points)

    WC Wild-Card

1WC. St. Louis Blues (93 points)
2WC. Los Angeles Kings (91 points)

In this scenario, first round match-ups would include: CHI vs. STL, SJ vs. LA, MIN vs. NSH, and ANA vs. EDM
