Player Surveys on Ice Conditions

A growing concern around the league this year has been the ice conditions. While Barclays Center in Brooklyn takes a lot of heat in this argument, the truth is, there are several arenas suffering from similar issues, some would argue worse. Because of that, the NHL is reportedly handing out post-game surveys in an attempt to rectify the problem. [The Score]

  • Blues Sellers Following Fabbri Injury?

Steven Conklin over at Bleedin’ Blue discusses how the recent season-ending ACL injury to Robby Fabbri essentially makes St. Louis sellers ahead of the deadline. This was written prior to the Blues 2-0 win over Philly, so you’ve gotta wonder if fans are feeling a little more confident with their goaltending following the past few games. [Bleedin’ Blue]

    Goalie Equipment Changes

On one hand, it’s a little odd for the NHL to be rolling out equipment changes mid-season, especially for goaltenders who are a different breed of player. That being said, I understand why they did it. The goaltending fraternity has long pushed back to prevent these changes, so the NHL is basically fed up. Well, it’s been a few days now with the new equipment and it sounds like we’re getting a lot of mixed reviews. [The Globe and Mail]

Johnson Nearing a Return With Avs

The Colorado Avalanche received some good news lately. It sounds like defenseman Erik Johnson is nearing a return from injury. He’s been sidelined since December 3rd with a broken fibula, so this is a big piece to welcome back. [Mile High Sticking]

Quebec City Still Holding Out Hope for NHL Team

Here’s a story that just won’t seem to go away. When the NHL announced it would be expanding to Las Vegas, the folks up in Quebec City were devastated. It’s a passionate hockey town that I believe will get a team again one day. [Las Vegas-Review Journal]

Granlund Has Cemented Future With the Wild

Danny Lambert over at Gone Puck Wild wrote a good piece discussing how Mikael Granlund has gone from potential trade candidate to cementing his future with the club in 2016-17. The Finn has managed to set career-highs in all offensive categories across the board. [Gone Puck Wild]

    NHL Daily Morning Rant

Speaking further to Danny Lambert’s piece on Mikael Granlund; I’ve been absolutely impressed with his play in 2016-17. Here’s a guy who came into the league as a center, but seemed to have an issue getting involved in the offense. Not just that, he would barely shoot the puck. Long story short, a permanent shift to the wing was exactly what he needed to take a little pressure off the Finn defensively. In turn, he’s putting up big numbers, and the scary thing is, he might still have a higher ceiling.
