NHL Daily: Morning NHL Headlines

Winter Classic Back in New York
Ten years ago the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Winter Classic against the Pittsburgh Penguins, however, they lost the game in a shootout. But after a year that seen them struggle how nice is it to once again return ten year’s later against the New York Rangers. (Sabre Noise)

Toronto Has A Lot of Options on D
For the better part of a year now we know Toronto has been looking to add more defensive depth to the team. And now they have a ton of options, they could either acquire Chris Tanev or Karl Alzner both of which would cost the Leafs though. Some cheaper options would be Cody Franson, Dmitry Kulikov, and Michael Stone. Or they could just use the draft like they have been, we’ll have to wait and see. (Tip Of The Tower)

Barrie’s Success in the IIHF is Now Over
After leading the tournament in points this year it seems the Colorado defensemen can’t catch a break, even in a World Tournament. Tyson Barrie will miss the remainder of the tournament with a lower body injury. This doesn’t just ruin his chances at redeeming something good out of the year, but also Team Canada’s as he’s been a very important piece. (Mile High Sticking)

Niemi the Odd Man Out in Dallas
After the Dallas Stars acquired goaltender Ben Bishop from the LA Kings, it was obvious either Kari Lehtonen or Antti Niemi would be on the way out. And now it seems the odd one out will be Niemi. This is a good thing in some ways as Vegas could pursue him for free in the expansion draft if not bought out, or offer him a cheap contract. Now, why would Vegas take/sign him? he’s not as solid as before and if you wanna tank without actually trying to, you put pieces on the ice that will help you do so. (Fansided)

Subban Fined by the NHL?
According to many sources, defenseman P.K. Subban has been fined $2,000.00 by the NHL for embellishment. Said incident occurred during Nashville’s game four against the Blues when Subban was caught diving after a warning not to from the last time. This is one thing that definitely needs to stop in the NHL, diving is for the pools guys. (Fansided)

Kovalchuk Returning to New Jersey
Since Ilya Kovalchuk made his statement that he wanted to return to the NHL, the New Jersey Devils have been wondering what’s the best corse of action. Well, it seems they are ready to bring him back but for a sign and trade move only. New Jersey no longer has any interest in Kovalchuk and you most likely know why and he want’s to go somewhere else, first though the Devils need to find a dance partner. Second, how long is it before he returns to the KHL? (Pucks And Pitchforks)
