NHL Daily: Morning NHL Headlines

Sabres Need One Position Left to Fill
After finally signing Jason Botterill as the team’s new general manager, the Sabres have one move left to make. And that move is to find a new head coach, and while some are available only one will make the cut. According to rumors Rick Tocchet, Jacques Martin, Phil Housley, and Todd Reirden are potential candidates, but both Tocchet and Martin have experience with Botterill so it wouldn’t be unlikely if one was to be chosen. (Sabre Noise)

Scary Incident With Tampa Defenseman
Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman has had a pretty solid World Championship so far, with his latest accomplishment being an 8-1 victory over Italy. But with everything good comes something bad, and the bad definitely happened. Italian forward Michele Marchetti collided with Hedman splitting his visor causing it to break and cut his face open pretty good. Fortunately for Hedman, he was able to get stitched up and will return to play for Sweden. (Fansided)

Maple Leafs on the Verge of Signing Defenseman
A lot of reports have come in about Toronto going after Swedish defenseman Calle Rosen, but now a new name has popped up. They are pursuing another Swedish defenseman, Philip Holm. Now, who is Holm exactly? He’s 25 years old, he’s played 197 games in the Swedish Elite League and has totaled 41 points. (Tip Of The Tower)

Chicago Forward Gets an Extension
After a very solid season the Blackhawks have extended the contract of a certain scorer who has broken out, now who could this be? None other than Richard Panik. After posting a career high in points with 44 (22 goals, 22 assists) Panik was given a nice extension at $2.8 million a year for two years. Which is $1.4 million a year. (Blackhawk Up)

After Acquiring Bishop, the Stars Offer Him a Deal

Carolina Represented Well at Memorial Cup
The Memorial Cup is the most prestigious awards given in the Canadian Hockey League for Junior teams. There’s one host team, then the three league champions from the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL. So who exactly is representing Carolina in the M-Cup? Warren Foegele, Spencer Smallman, Julien Gauthier, and Callum Booth. All four of these players are amazing, but Foegele has tremendous potential sitting second just behind Gauthier, the future of Carolina looks very bright. (Cardiac Cane)
