NHL Daily: Morning NHL Headlines

Florida Panthers Still Searching for New Head Coach
While the Florida Panthers are still venturing every avenue on who to hire as a new head coach, a likely candidate would be Phil Housley. He’s played 1,495 career NHL games putting up 338 goals and 894 assists so he definitely knows the way around the ice. He has yet to decide since the Predators are still in the playoffs and he’s an assistant obviously, but anything is possible. (The Rat Trick)

St. Louis Looking for More Depth on the Wings
A lot of talks have been circulating recently about Toronto’s James van Riemsdyk, Edmonton’s Jordan Eberle, and Tampa Bay’s Jonathan Drouin. Now with the right package in place each one of these players could land in St. Louis, the question is what will it cost them? (Bleedin’ Blue)

Could Kovalchuk Actually Start with the Devils?
Ever since Ilya Kovalchuk expressed interest in returning to the NHL the Devils have been wondering what to do with him. At first, reports came that the organization was up for a sign and trade type of deal. But the question now is, how much money does Kovalchuk want and who has the cap space? If he wants too much and the Devils can’t find a partner to the dance, he could very well start the season on the Devils roster. (Pucks And Pitchforks)

Vegas Doesn’t Need Klein
People have done countless expansion draft scenarios and almost 50% if not more feature the Knights selecting defenseman Kevin Klein from the Rangers. But do the Knights really want him? he’s owed $2.9 million this year and in 60 games only put up three points, so the best scenario would be to pass and select someone else. (Blue Line Station)

Washington’s Free Agent Target
It’s no surprise that the Capitals are going to be making some significant off-season moves this year after yet again blowing it in the second round. And since Justin Williams is getting up there in age and closer to the retirement the Caps definitely need to fill that slot, so a solid choice would be someone like Nail Yakupov. Now you may be wondering why, well the market is fairly low when it comes to wingers and Yakupov thrives when playing with fellow Russian’s look at him in Sarnia with Alex Galchenyuk for instance. So if he ends up getting some ice time with Alex Ovechkin, Andre Burakovsky, or Evgeny Kuznetsov it could very well re-ignite his career. (Stars And Sticks)

Ducks Captain Fined $10,000
During a very heated game, four Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf had some words for the official and they weren’t the best of words to choose from. Now I’m not going to quote what he said but it was a homophobic slur and the result was a $10,000 fine, the most the CBA can hand out to a player. (Fansided)
