3 NHL teams who should hire Bruce Boudreau right now
Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres would be a good fit for Bruce Boudreau. They haven’t participated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the 2010-11 season. Since making consecutive appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2006 and 2007, the Sabres have only made the postseason twice. You can laugh at Boudreau’s postseason woes, but at least he gets his teams to the playoffs.

However, the Sabres would have to think outside the box for this to work because Ralph Kreuger is their head coach right now and he has a multi-year deal. Given how much of a mess their organization is, they should be more than willing to think outside the box. Whatever the heck the Sabres are doing isn’t working. So maybe they need to get creative.
The Sabres could promote Kreuger to a President of Hockey Operations role. Krueger is a mighty fine coach, but his experience in sports is mostly as an advisor of sorts. This makes him perfect for an advisory role in the front office. Now, general manager Jason Botterill is the whole reason the Sabres need a PoHO. So why not fire Botterill and hire someone else?
Then the Sabres could hire Boudreau and let him worry about the stuff behind the bench. He has a history of getting the most out of his players. Boudreau could help Jack Eichel improve even more. He’s already an excellent player. But Boudreau could help him become elite.
All of this would require the Pegulas, the owners of the Sabres, to admit they’re screwed and they know nothing. That’s why I don’t think it will happen. But should the Sabres hire Boudreau? Absolutely.
