8. Kyle Capobianco

When he was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third-round (No.63 overall) at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, it was clear defenseman Kyle Capobianco had some offensive talent, as he was coming off a 40-point season for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. His following two years in the OHL saw similar offensive outputs with 43 and 45 points respectively. While this is solid production, it didn’t have anyone predicting he would put up numbers at the AHL level like he has.

While the 23-year-old has only played in 12 games with the Coyotes to this point, that may soon change. He had an outstanding 2019-20 season with the Roadrunners, posting 10 goals and 37 points in just 42 games. It wasn’t a fluke either, as all three of his AHL seasons to this point have been very impressive offensively. The one problem with Capobianco’s game, and the reason he hasn’t become a full time NHLer to this point, are because of his issues defensively. If he is able to figure out that side of the game, he has a chance at becoming a high-scoring NHL defenseman.

7. Ivan Prosvetov

The first and only goaltender appearing on this list is Ivan Prosvetov. The rookie netminder appeared in 27 games with the Roadrunners this past season, putting up a 2.88 goals against average (GAA) along with a .909 save percentage (SV%) and a 14-10-1 record. He also had a short five game stint in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush, where he had a 2.40 GAA and a .930 SV%.

While he is still a season or two away from being ready for a full time NHL role, he shows tremendous promise. On top of his high athletic ability, he stands at a hulking six-foot-five, which allows him to cover a lot of net. The hope is that his numbers will continue to rise in the AHL this upcoming season. If they do, he may very well be the Coyotes future starting goaltender.
