Habs Injuries to Galchenyuk, Desharnais
Montreal was dealt a tough blow on Wednesday. Both Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais will miss a decent chunk of time. It was reported they would each miss six-to-eight weeks, leaving a gaping hole in the Habs lineup. [NHL.com]
Duchene to Carolina?
All NHL
Charles Taylor over at Cardiac Cane proposes the idea of the Hurricanes acquiring the Avs star center Matt Duchene. He proposes a simple swap of Justin Faulk for Matt Duchene, but it would certainly cost more than that. The question is, how much more would Ron Francis be willing to add? [Cardiac Cane]
Trademark Issues for Vegas Golden Knight?
Recent reports are suggesting the Vegas Golden Knights are facing trademark issues. Owner Bill Foley released a statement suggesting it’s a normal hurdle in the trademark process and that many teams share names, something they plan to cite in their appeal. He seems confident it won’t be an issue, but nonetheless, it’s an interesting story. [SB Nation]
Andrighetto Gets Another Shot
Following the injuries to Galchenyuk and Desharnais, Montreal made a call-up. They’ve turned to Sven Andrighetto in what will be his third stint with the big club. It’s a massive opportunity for the Swiss winger to make a good impression to stick around a little longer. [A Winning Habit]
NHL/Apple Closing in on Deal
The National Hockey League and Apple are close to coming to terms on a deal that will see Ipads and other Apple technology on NHL benches. Right now, teams are dealing with different tablets and varying internet connections, but this deal is said to bring a more consistent platform across the board for all teams. [TSN]
Coyotes Struggling With Puck Possession
Jason Harrison over at Howlin’ Hockey discusses the odd predicament the Coyotes are in right now. After hiring John Chayka, a deeply analytical mind, Arizona is struggling in the very department one might expect to be a strength: puck possession. Teams like Arizona and Florida may learn the hard way on this one; hockey just isn’t baseball. There’s a use for advanced stats in our game, but it’s not how you build a franchise. [Howlin’ Hockey]

NHL Daily Morning Rant
While I tend to disagree with Mr. Taylor’s proposed going price for Matt Duchene in a deal with Carolina, it’s still a very intriguing proposal. You’ve really got to put a lot of thought into these deals to figure out how they work for both sides. For example, even if Justin Faulk were worthy of Matt Duchene straight up, the Avs don’t need another right-handed shot on the blue line. With Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie locked in, the real need remains on the left side, which should technically be easier to fill. Only problem? The only player that might interest Colorado is Jaccob Slavin. So, unless GM Joe Sakic is ready to tear it down and accept the likes of Haydn Fleury, a trade between these two clubs may be difficult.
