Detroit Red Wings: Finally There

The Red Wings have finally done it, they tied the record of 20 consecutive home wins in a single season, set by the Boston Bruins in the 1929-30 season and then duplicated by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1975-76 season.It’s just so coincidental that the team who holds the top spot for the record played the potential record-breakers to try and stop their reign.

Whether you are a Detroit fan or a Philly fan, you couldn’t be upset with this game. It was such a close game, and in the end, it just came up to who was do for taking the lead. Philadelphia and Detroit were back and forth with goals, it was crazy. In the end, the blazing Red Wings came out on top like they usually do, and they got the two points to leap frog back over the New York Rangers for the top spot. The Red Wings are very capable for breaking the record a few games over. Their next challenge is Tuesday night vs. Dallas and then Friday night vs. Nashville. I think these are two teams that the Red Wings can tame and beat.

What was the reason the Red Wings won? The obvious answer is they scored more goals than Philadelphia. But they do more than that, and I’ve noticed it so much this year. They have crisp passes. Have you noticed? The passes are fast and right to where they need to be received. A lot of other teams just kind of toss it up and hope their player is faster and gets to it first. The Red Wings have the fast passes and the crisper receptions.

Another reason for their success is this man to the left here. Not only is he known for his massive checks, known as getting “Kronwalled”, he also scores goals, and from the blue line. He has a terrific laser shot and knows how to bury the puck passed any goalie. Sure, it is awesome when he Kronwalls someone, like when he hit Vancouver Canucks’ Ryan Kesler and Edmonton Oilers’ Ales Hemsky. Both hits were legal and he caught them with their heads down. Everyone knows if Niklas Kronwall is on the ice, you should know where he is at all times. Wheter he is Kronwalling a player or the goalie by scoring on them, he is a huge advantage to the Red Wings, and it’s no wonder why they put the big A on his sweater.

The Red Wings, in my honest opinion, can win the Stanley Cup this year. It’s not only because I live in Detroit, it’s because I know they have the skill to do it. I know I sound like a broken record, but they aren’t the youngest team on the ice. But they are the most skilled players on the ice, and with the trade deadline coming up soon, they have the most CAP room and can pretty much do whatever they like.

There were rumors that they were looking into the Edmonton Oilers’ Ales Hemsky (could you imagine Kronwall and Hemsky on the same team after last week’s incident?) and the Nashville Predator’s Ryan Suter. Either one of these players would be a great addition, but we don’t need any defensemen. We need a filler for Patrick Eaves, who suffered a jaw injury earlier this season and is still out. The Wings really don’t NEED anybody.

When the Wings go on to win the Stanley Cup, all I can say is I told you so, and if they don’t, you can rub it in my face. It isn’t really something you can really predict.
