At the Air Canada Centre, Kessel led the way with his fourth career hat-trick, while Jonathan Bernier made 23 saves to lead the Maple Leafs back to the win column.
Washington Capitals – 5, Winnipeg Jets – 4 (SO)

Regulation and overtime didn’t settle things at the MTS Centre, so it was off to a shootout, where Martin Erat scored the winner in the sixth round to give the Capitals their third win in four games.

NYI Goalscorers: Brock Nelson, Matt Moulson (2), and Frans Nielsen

Down 4-3 late in the third period, Nielsen sent the game to overtime after converting a rebound from the top of the crease. However, Richardson ended it midway through overtime, beating Evgeni Nabokov from a bad angle.
New Jersey Devils – 1, Columbus Blue Jackets – 4

Led by Wisniewski’s three points, the Blue Jackets won consecutive games for the first time this season. Meanwhile, the Devils have lost eight out of nine games to start the season.

In Montreal, the Oilers overcame an early two-goal deficit for a big road win. The Oilers got two assists from Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, and Mark Arcobello, while Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves to help Edmonton snap a six-game losing streak.

Down 2-0 through 40 minutes of play, the Panthers tied the game and salvaged a point. However, Toews and Patrick Sharp scored in the shootout for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who have won five of their last six.
Nashville Predators – 0, Minnesota Wild – 2

Josh Harding stopped all 16 shots he faced to shut out the Predators. The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Wild, who host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
