When the Anaheim Ducks rebranded and dropped the “Mighty” the went from one of the more unique (and admittedly cartoony) uniform and logo sets in the NHL to something that was really boring a bland. As if to reinforce the fact that they were no longer the Mighty Ducks, Anaheim went with a simple word mark logo on both their home and away jerseys. Only recently have we seen a proper logo reintroduced with the “Webbed D” being placed at center ice and on the Ducks third jerseys.

There are rumors that Anaheim will soon make some changes to their jerseys, the most significant being promoting the D logo to their primary home and away crest. I think this is one of the quickest and simplest ways to improve the Ducks identity.

They also need to inject more color into their uniform set. Their stadium series jerseys were bright Orange (a nod to Orange County, which they call home) and while some did not like them, it was a refreshing change from one of the more bland jerseys in the NHL.

Even the third jersey, with its modern vertical striping is a welcome addition, as it shows up much better than the current home and away. Up close the current Ducks jerseys look nice, but once you throw them on TV its just a bland mush of black.

While I look back fondly on the old Mighty Ducks days, they should stay in the 90s (except for the occasional throwback night), but the best way to fix the Ducks is to introduce more orange and introduce some sort of actual primary logo. If reports are to be believed, the Ducks are well on their way to fix their boring identity.
