Fraser Placed on Waivers, Sparks Bruins to Big Win over Detroit
Peter Chiarelli placed Matt Fraser on the waivers on Sunday, and recalled Jordan Caron from Providence. The Edmonton Oilers quickly claimed Fraser off the waivers. Chiarelli hoped that the Bruins would be sparked by the move and start to gain some momentum as the NHL season continues onward.

Despite Milan Lucic and Patrice Bergeron being out due to day-to-day injuries, the Bruins came charging from the gate on Monday night. The Black and Gold recorded a season high 3 goals in a single period, doing that during the first twenty minutes. It was one of their best periods of the season due to the high energy and performance level.
Reilly Smith, Gregory Campbell, Carl Soderberg, Seth Griffith, and Chris Kelly were the scorers for the Bruins as they exploded with a 5-2 victory over Detroit. The Bruins combined for a season high 45 shots on goal during the evening. Soderberg had six of those shots alone. Without Lucic and Bergeron, Krejci played on a line alongside Marchand and Reilly Smith. The three seemed to set the tone from the beginning of the night.
It seemed for the first time in a long time that the Bruins had finally stood up. Everyone on the ice did their job. The Black and Gold finally came together. They finally proved to themselves and the crowd that they were capable of playing at this level and able to win. The Bruins were full of both heart and resilience. And maybe most importantly of all, the Bruins played for each other. They proved that without players such as Bergeron and Lucic that they could still show up and preform. The two points on the evening were big ones.
The win was impressive to say the least. The TD Garden roared with approval as the Bruins played with overpowering offense and strong defense. The Bruins were solid on the penalty kill as well. After allowing one power play goal to the Red Wings, the Bruins stood up and were able to hold the Detroit Red Wings to few chances. There were times when the Wings only got one or two shots off during the power play. The Bruins had held the top power play team to very little chances.

The Bruins sizzled throughout the game. They were aggressive, energetic, and physical in their play. It seemed clear that at least for tonight that the Big Bad Bruins were back. The team that the fans love was skating before them. Hopefully with the big win against the Red Wings, they can gain momentum and begin to set a tone for the rest of the season.
The Bruins know that they are capable of playing well. They showed everyone tonight. They need to continue performing with the same level of effort. From here on out there should be no excuses since they have already proved themselves with the strong play tonight.
Chiarelli sent a strong message by placing Matt Fraser on the waivers. It proved that no one really is safe and that Chiarelli is not afraid to make moves if he has to. It is clear that he wants to see an improvement with his team. It is not the time for the Bruins to continue to stumble along. It is the time for the Bruins to start picking up momentum and begin to steamroll forward as they fight for a playoff spot.
