As the 2015 regular season is winding down, fans of non-playoff teams are looking forward to the highly anticipated NHL offseason of 2015. With a once-in-a-decade draft looming and many impending trades likely to happen (see Phil Kessel, Joe Thornton, and Dion Phaneuf), this offseason may see a lot of transactions and excitement. However, many are forgetting about the offseason’s main attraction: free agency.

I took a look at some of the top unrestricted free agents pending July 1st and tried to boil it down to the top ten for us to get an idea on how busy free agency will be.

Cody Franson. 1. player. 151. Thought to be on the losing end of a couple previous signings (all were one-year deals), Franson seems destined to finally get a hefty pay raise after having a solid year with the Maple Leafs and Predators. He will likely re-sign with the Predators, but a return to Toronto is not out of the question.. D. Nashville

Although he will be 40 years old, St. Louis has made it clear he will not be retiring after this year. he is one of the Rangers’ top scorers and if he doesn’t resign with them, I will be surprised.. RW. New York. Martin St. Louis. 2. player. 95

98. Dubnyk has been almost an unstoppable force after being acquired by the Wild. After a horrendous 2013-14 campaign, he has put together one of the greatest turnarounds in the history of the game. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract he will get this offseason. The Wild will have to offer a bit more if teams like Dallas and Buffalo are interested.. G. Minnesota. Devan Dubnyk. 3. player

Mike Ribeiro. 4. player. 151. Ribeiro is also having a great comeback season after quietly signing with the Predators in the offseason. Currently second on the team in points, the 35-year-old takes his time in making decisions and will probably not sign an extension until the season is over. If Nashville doesn’t offer enough, Minnesota and Ottawa could be good fits.. C. Nashville

player. 19. It is hard to believe that this long-tenured veteran is still under 30, and because of the fact he has only played for Washington, it is hard to believe he will be signing elsewhere.. D. Washington. Mike Green. 5

player. 120. Niemi seems to be going out the door in San Jose. However, he has played pretty solid as of late, so the Sharks brass will be taking note of that. He is easily the best goalie on the market, which will work in his favour, unless trades involving goalies are made. Edmonton, Minnesota, Buffalo, and Dallas should be nice fits.. G. San Jose. Antti Niemi. 6

7. player. 70. Sort of an underrated center, Soderberg is one of the top scorers on the Bruins. He will most likely be leaving the team in the offseason, however, since the team is tight on cap space. maybe Philadelphia, Ottawa, or Arizona will take a jab at him?. C. Boston. Carl Soderberg

92. One of the most reliable defencemen in the game, Martin has playoff experience and teammates apparently love him. I think the Penguins would really want to resign him because of his chemistry with <strong><a href=. D. Pittsburgh. Paul Martin. 8. player

player. 67. “Mr. Game 7” is a little quieter during the regular season, but is still putting up one of his better campaigns this season. However, with the Kings tight on cap, other teams could come in with better offers. (Carolina, Anaheim, Detroit)? . RW. Los Angeles. Justin Williams. 9

player. 105. The 34-year-old had a breakout 2013 season after coming fourth in Norris Trophy voting. Beauchemin is a reliable veteran who has plenty of experience. Due to Anaheim’s youth movement on defence, Beauchemin may be on his way out. Dallas, Buffalo, and Colorado could be good fits. Maybe even a return to Toronto?. D. Anaheim. Francois Beauchemin. 10
