Gordie Howe Passes Away at 88 Years Old:  The Hockey World Takes to Social Media to Celebrate the Life of Mr.Hockey

Today the hockey world is mourning the loss of Gordie Howe, arguably one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

An ambassador for the sport of ice hockey both on and off the ice, he embodied everything a hockey player should be.

A four-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Detroit Red Wings, the Hockey Hall of Famer played his first game at age 18 and his last at 52. His accomplishments are legendary to say the least and he sure did love being “Mr. Hockey“.

Many took to social media to pay their respects to no.9 both fans and players alike shared their stories of Mr. Howe and his impact on their lives.

Although he may be gone, he certainly will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on in both the record books and the people who admired him.

Following the news of the passing of Mr. Howe the Detroit Red Wings changed their twitter avatar and tweeted this video remembering #9.

The “Great One” Wayne Gretzky also shared his reaction to the passing of Howe, by tweeting ” Unfortunately we lost the greatest hockey player ever today, but more importantly the nicest man I have ever met. Sending our thoughts and prayers to the Howe family and to the millions of hockey fans like me who loved Gordie Howe. RIP Mr. Hockey.”

Gretzky couldn’t have said it any better, just like him thousands upon thousands of other young hockey players (and even NFL’s JJ Watt) aspired to be like Gordie Howe and wanted to be like him when they grew up.
