Hockey Legend Gordie Howe Passes Away At 88 Years Old
The Howe family has announced one of the greatest players to ever play the game, hockey legend Gordie Howe, has passed away at the age 88.
Howe played 23 seasons in the NHL, 22 with the Detroit Red Wings and one with the Hartford Whalers. In that time , scoring 1685 points in 1767 games. He is 4th all time in points and only second to Wayne Gretzky in goals with 801.
Gordie Howe also played 6 seasons in the WHA (World Hockey Association) retiring at the age of 52.
At 66 years of age, Howe stepped on the ice during an IHL game to become the oldest athlete to play in a pro league.
His long and storied career gave him the title Mr. Hockey. Gordie Howe was a six-time Hart Trophy winner, and his list of achievements include scoring a 100 points at 41 years old (a NHL record) and playing with his sons Mark and Marty Howe in the WHA.
Tough times awaited the family in 2014, when Gordie suffered a life-threatening stroke. He pulled through, but passed away June 10th 2016 from Dementia.
All 30 NHL teams and more came out to honour Mr. Hockey’s passing.

This goes to show how much of a persona hockey legend Gordie Howe is to not just Canadians but also the entire hockey world. He will be greatly missed as not just a hockey player, but as a person and a developer of the game.
Just a week after losing another legendary sports figure, Muhammad Ali, the NHL and hockey world mourns the passing of a player regarded by many as the greatest ever.
Even “The Great One” weighed in on the loss today during Sportsnet‘s exclusive coverage, Wayne Gretzky always admired Mr.Hockey and his mind, Gordie Howe was indeed the best ever.
