NHL Daily Morning Rant

The Tobias Rieder holdout in the Desert is a bit of a head scratcher. At this point, it is clear the Yotes forward is seeking too much money or term (possibly both).

Only problem? Rieder’s agent has zero leverage to work with.

His client only has two years of NHL experience (21 points in 72 games in 2014-15, 37 points in 82 games in 2015-16). While this past season was an encouraging sign, there’s no way of knowing if he can continue to grow and blossom or whether he has reached his ceiling.

If Rieder wants to get paid, he needs to accept a one-year bridge deal. Another productive season would give the German forward enough leverage to earn a decent contract next summer.
