Dan Boyle Officially Announces Retirement From NHL

Longtime NHL Defenseman Dan Boyle Officially Announced His Retirement From the NHL on Wednesday Afternoon in San Jose. The 17-Year Veteran Spent Time With Florida, Tampa Bay, San Jose, and New York (Rangers).
After learning about the news earlier this week, longtime NHL defenseman Dan Boyle officially announced his retirement on Wednesday in San Jose, California. The 40-year-old enjoyed a lengthy 17-year career, having spent time with the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, and New York Rangers.
He spent the majority of his career in San Jose, suiting up in 431 of 1093 regular season games with the Sharks. Dan Boyle now calls the Bay Area home upon leaving the game of hockey.

Dan Boyle was a college free agent signing out of Miami-Ohio University back in 1998.

He made his NHL debut for the Panthers during the 1998-99 season and spent the better part of the next four seasons with Florida before being traded to Tampa Bay back in January 2002.
He stayed with the Lightning through the 2007-08 season, which included a Stanley Cup victory in 2003-04.
Four months after signing a six-year contract extension with Tampa Bay, Dan Boyle was traded to San Jose in July 2008. Boyle wound up serving as an alternate captain for the next six seasons before signing with the New York Rangers prior to the 2014-15 season.
Over 17 NHL seasons, Dan Boyle managed to rack up 163 goals, 442 assists (605 points) in 1093 career games. He also had an impressive 17 goals, 64 assists (81 points) in 130 postseason contests.

Everyone knows that Dan Boyle was one the NHL’s premier blueliners for a long time – but few realize how big of an impact he had in his prime. One could even argue that Tampa Bay would have struggled to win in 2004 had it not been for his impeccable play. Plus, it’s gotta mean something when you hear praise coming from the likes of John Tortorella.
