New York Islanders’ New Post Jack Capuano Era Might Pay Off

The New York Islanders Are Turning A New Leaf. Having Recently Fired Head Coach Jack Capuano, the Isles Are Headed Into A New Era of Play: Post-Capuano. New York is Hoping A Coaching Change Can Spark This Failing Team.

The New York Islanders and Jack Capuano have finally parted ways. New York announced earlier this week that Capuano had been released of his coaching responsibilities and that assistant GM Doug Weight will fill in as interim coach.

The Isles broke in their new era with a win, but it still isn’t guaranteed that the Isles will rise to success after the coaching change. Regardless, the New York Islanders are entering a new era without their former coach.

New York Islanders Post-Capuano

The Isles hosted the Dallas Stars in their first game without their former head coach. With Weight behind the bench, the Islanders confidently aimed to start fresh with their biggest change so far this season.

New York dominated the game and with two goals from captain John Tavares and skilled goaltending from Thomas Greiss, the Isles shut out the Stars 3-0. This is the Isles’ second consecutive shutout victory.

Though the Isles’ last game, with Capuano behind the bench, was also a big 4-0 shutout win against the Bruins, the coach wasn’t striking the right cord. The Islanders have been having a season very unlike themselves and have been trailing the Metropolitan Division. This new leaf might be a turning point for the team.

Big Wins Inspire New Trends

Sometimes change and new confidence is enough to turn a team around. After all, the Pittsburgh Penguins took a similar path last season and they went on to take home the Stanley Cup.  The Islanders are hoping for a similar fate.

Confidence and new leadership might be enough to turn this season around but it won’t take away from all of the Islanders’ faults. New York will need to increase their determination and discipline if they hope to really change their season around.

The team seems revitalized and if this mentality sticks it can be a game changer for the team. Now, more than ever, it is imprtant to see the team step up in any way that they can to put their best play forward.

Surging play from players like Tavares and other players who want to prove their worth on the team will be important for the Islanders moving forward. The organization is proving that they are willing to do whatever necessary to succeed this season, even if it sticks a few Isles on the trade block.

Will Moves Follow the Coaching Change?

The Isles have an assistant GM on the bench now, though only temporary. Regardless, the Islanders are looking to be playoff contenders and are counting the points necessary to break the wild card (at least). It wouldn’t be strange to see the team make some moves before the deadline.

That being said, the players at risk of being dealt varies depending on how ready the Islanders are ready to risk players for success. The team has explained that a coaching change is the easiest move to make without making trades, but after the new coach phase fades off the Islanders might find themselves struggling to grab wins again.

If moves happen, they won’t be hasty but they might take fans by surprise. The Islanders are looking to win and if they want it badly enough, moves might continue to happen.

A New Era

Regardless, the Islanders are doing their best to get confident and change their play. Perhaps the coaching change was a wake-up for the team, though many might argue that losing Capuano was inevitable.

The Islanders look confident and strong in their matchup against Dallas. For the first time in quite some time, the Islanders looked like a team. While this doesn’t mean that all their problems are solved, the Isles look determined to get their game together.

This coaching change might inspire a new era that could pay off for the team. Nothing changes this up like a coaching change and new energy behind the bench. After all, the Islanders might get lucky and follow that path the Penguins paved last season.

Plus, the Florida Panthers had a similar situation this season and the team isn’t leading their division but they aren’t so far off from where they want to be in their division.

The future is uncertain but the fact is the Islanders are looking for a positive change and if things go as planned this new era can have a huge impact on the team. As more play ensures it will be easier to see how the Islanders will take on their new dynamic.

The Islanders’ next matchup will be on home ice against the Los Angeles Kings at 7:00 p.m. ET.
