Julien Ready for Fresh Start With Habs

The last time Claude Julien was behind the bench for Montreal was 2006. He said he’s had a lot of experience in those 11 years since and hopes to get the Habs back on track as they head down the final stretch of the regular season. [NHL.com]

Kalinin Placed on Waivers

On Friday, the New Jersey Devils placed 25-year-old forward Sergey Kalinin on waivers. The move comes as a bit of a surprise. Sure, he’s had a bit of a down year, but he’s shown a ton of promise over the last year and a half. [Pucks and Pitchforks]

Cehlarik Recalled by Boston

Boston Bruins recalled forward Peter Cehlarik from Providence on Saturday. He made his NHL debut recently and posted a pair of assists in just his second game. If he manages to sneak back into the lineup, it’s worth noting that he skated with the likes of David Krejci and David Pastrnak last time around. [CBS Sports]

Bruins-Avalanche Trade Rumors

Andrew Thompson over at Causeway Crowd wrote an interesting piece on Friday regarding the recent trade rumors swirling around Boston and Colorado. In his opinion, the B’s would be making a mistake to do business with the Avs if the asking price is soaring high for guys like Duchene or Landeskog. It’s just not worth losing a Brandon Carlo-type defender. [Causeway Crowd]

Seattle Investor Still Hopeful for NHL Team

Chris Hansen, a Seattle investor (you may be familiar with the name), was speaking with reporters from KING-5. He expressed his belief that it’s probable that the city of Seattle lands an NHL team before bringing back another NBA franchise. [Sportsnet]

Tough Decisions With Gionta

Richard Spalding over at Sabre Noise wrote an interesting piece regarding veteran Brian Gionta. He explains why the Buffalo Sabres cannot afford to be sentimental with the 38-year-old who could draw some interest on the open market ahead of the trade deadline. [Sabre Noise]

NHL Daily Morning Rant

We should learn fairly shortly the fate of New Jersey Devils F Sergey Kalinin. If NJ is lucky, he may slip through all 29 teams given the timing. We’re less than a couple of weeks away from the deadline, so some GMs may not want to add the extra body/contract right now. That being said, I think it would be wise for at least one of the 29 other clubs to put in a claim for the 25-year-old. After five years with KHL’s Avangard Omsk, Kalinin joined the Devils in 2015-16 and had an impressive rookie campaign. He only posted 15 points in 78 games, but proved to be a quality bottom-six grinder for the Devils. His numbers have dipped slightly in 2016-17 with just four points in 43 games, but there’s still a ton of value here. Personally, I’d be surprised to see him clear waivers and head to Albany.
