Hurricanes G Eddie Lack Carried Off on Stretcher Following Canes’ OT Loss

Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Eddie Lack Was Carried Off the Ice on a Stretcher Following Detroit’s OT Winner in the Teams’ Matchup Tonight. The Injury is Believed to be Related to the Collison That Preceded the OT Goal.

The Hurricanes’ matchup with the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night ended with a scary moment when goaltender Eddie Lack went down after Detroit grabbed their OT winner.

Red Wing Andreas Athanasiou notched Detroit’s overtime game-winner, but as he slid the puck through Lack he was pushed by Carolina’s Victor Rask. Rask’s shove sent Athanasiou directly into Lack, which sent the goaltender immediately down into his own net.

Lack went down, obviously in a significant amount of pain. Trainers immediately responded to Lack’s fall and quickly came onto the ice to get Lack onto a stretcher. Both teams, and the coaching staffs, gathered around Lack’s net in silence as trainers got him settled on a stretcher.

Lack went down hard and painfully but we sure to show his teammates, and the Red Wings, a thumbs up as the trainers carried him from the ice. He was then taken to the local hospital for further evaluation.

Uncertainty For Eddie Lack

News regarding Lack’s condition will be something to wait on. While the goalie showed onlookers a thumbs up as he left the ice, there still can be injury following the collision following the goal.

Carolina won’t want to see Lack leave them now, especially as they chase the playoffs. While many might not consider the Hurricanes a serious playoff contender, the team isn’t too far off from the second wild card spot and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them compete against the Isles and Bruins for the spot.

Though Lack was recently called out for his inconsistent play, he has since rediscovered his strong play and has been solid between the pipes.

Regardless, health comes first. Fans will be awaiting further news on Lack’s condition, and hopefully the impact won’t hinder the goalie or leave him with any serious injuries.

We wish Eddie Lack a speedy recovery following Monday night’s on-ice scare. More news regarding Lack’s condition will be revealed soon following his medical examinations.

UPDATE: Eddie Lack has tweeted, following his hospital visit, that all seems well and he’ll be able to return home tonight.
