NHL Daily: Morning NHL Headlines
Big Rumour Surround Florida and Edmonton
When Florida signed defenseman Jason Demers they were hoping for a bit more, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. He was solid offensively but in his own end, he struggled to succeed. And at a fairly cheap rate for the next four years, an interesting rumor has surfaced. The person on the other side of the coin is Edmonton’s Jordan Eberle, now will this deal happen, most likely not, but it could definitely help both teams. (The Rat Trick)
Should the Maple Leafs Target Sharp?
Auston Matthews is a fantastic player and throughout the year many sources have claimed him and Nylander need a better partner on the left side than Zach Hyman. Now Hyman isn’t any slouch but he also isn’t a Patrick Sharp. What is also interesting is the James van Riemsdyk rumors heating up about him going to Anaheim, if this does indeed happen Sharp would be a solid signing and he would come at a fair rate as well. New Coaching a Good Thing for the Avalanche
After what was a terrible season for Colorado they have announced Tuesday that they have let go of three assistant coaches. Now with head coach Jared Bednar wanting to bring in his own guys and formulate a system they all know and can get the players behind, next season should be an improvement for the Avalanche. Rangers Should Pursue Shattenkirk
This year’s free agent class is undoubtedly being headlined by defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, a player the Rangers could use very badly. Their defense needs some serious help with mainly Marc Staal, Brady Skjei, and Dan Girardi being the main point producers. With Shattenkirk on the backend with Staal or Girardi as a partner, it can help widen the scoring throughout the three lines and give New York a top combination. (Blue Line Station)
Next: Expansion Draft: Oilers Plan
Oilers Did A lot More with Pakarinen Signing
There is no question that Iiro Pakarinen is a solid player who is going to become a very solid NHLer soon. And the Oilers may have helped him even more than he knows, they re-signed him to a one-year deal worth $725,000. That’s a number that will be very influential in the Knights selection in the upcoming expansion draft. They can either select a top six forward who will eat a chunk of their cap space and hit, or they can take Iiro who will fill a top nine role and not even make a mark. (Oil On Whyte)
Knights Forward Impresses At Worlds
When the Knights announced the signing of Vadim Shipachyov a lot of people thought McPhee went nuts, but he’s proving people wrong. As many know the Worlds consist mostly of NHLers who didn’t make the playoffs or who were beaten out early enough to make their respective nations’ teams. Now back to Vadim, in the tournament he scored 13 points in 10 games, that’s very impressive for a man with a $4.5 million dollar price tag per season, let’s hope he can thrive in the NHL.
