The St. Louis Blues suffered a tremendous blow, losing Robby Fabbri for the 2017-18 season due to another left knee injury
The St. Louis Blues are without Robby Fabbri once again. Unfortunately, the young forward has re-injured his left knee and will be out for the entire 2017-18 season. Fabbri suffered a torn ACL on February 4, had surgery on February 28 and received medical clearance to train on July 31.

He played in Friday’s preseason game and garnered almost 20 minutes of ice time. Fabbri said he felt good after the game, but his body had a different plan. According to NHL.com, Fabbri was supposed to play against the Dallas Stars but was held out due to soreness after the morning skate. Coach Mike Yeo confirmed that Fabbri did not travel with the team. He was supposed to play the remaining preseason games, but the Blues have ruled him out indefinitely.

The Blues can’t catch a break, but perseverance is the name of the game. They have lost several players to injury and were hoping to be a Stanley Cup-contending team this season. With Fabbri added to the list, the Blues will be forced to rely on Vladimir Tarasenko, their depth players, and young-budding stars. Luckily for them, they have quite a few.
Who Will Step Up for the Blues?
Ivan Barbashev is an interesting candidate. He made his way up the Blues prospect ranks and is slated to start the season in the NHL. He scored 19 goals with 18 assists in 46 AHL games last year, which earned him a call-up. Barbashev played 30 regular season games with the Blues and scored five goals with seven assists. He stayed with the team in the playoffs but did not record a point in six games.
The Blues are in a position to rely on Jaden Schwartz. He is their best two-way forward and could break the 60-70 point mark if he plays the whole season. If the Blues lose him as well, they will have a tough time scoring goals, and a surprise performance will be the only thing that saves them.
Newcomer Brayden Schenn should be welcomed with open arms. He brings a strong offensive game and will provide a physical side as well. He will squeeze right into a top-six role and should provide a much-needed boost come playoff time. His arrival is even more important, now that Fabbri is on the shelf for the rest of the season.
Outside of the offensive issues, the Blues have a strong defensive group and a great young goalie in Jake Allen. They have always been able to produce good goalies, and an injury in that position should be filled quite easily. At the same time, Allen is approaching elite number status, and his ability to carry this team will be tested.
As long as they can score goals, the Blues should still be able to do some damage in the regular season. However, they will need a lot of things to go right if they want to bring home the Stanley Cup in 2017-18.
