Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak wasted no time justifying his big extension, scoring on a gorgeous power play snipe.

The biggest storyline of the Boston Bruins was the restricted free agency of David Pastrnak. It was rumored the sides were far apart. Heck, at one point, Pastrnak and his agent reportedly threatened to go to the KHL. But luckily for both sides, an agreement was worked out.

Pastrnak wasted no time showing why the Bruins committed six years and $40 million to him. On an early power play against the Nashville Predators, the talented forward sniped from a distance. The Bruins have to be excited about how their power play looked. Most notably, Charlie McAvoy, a rookie defenseman, got a perfect feed to Pastrnak.

Boston is relying quite heavily on their young players this season. So it’s good to see two of them contributing early. Pastrnak has an outstanding shot, and he shows it off here. His one-timer was fired to perfection, and thanks to a screen in front, there wasn’t much Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne could do.

Pastrnak has high expectations, coming off the best season of his young career. In his first full NHL season, he had 34 goals and 36 assists for 70 points in 75 games. Each of those set a career-high for the 2014 first round pick.

With the loss of David Backes for several weeks, Pastrnak is even more important to the Bruins than he was last season. For the first time in his career, he’ll be one of the guys teams game plan to start. And at least early on, it looks like Pastrnak won’t be playing with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, unlike last season.

The Bruins are off to a good start to their season. And they’ll need lots more goals like this from Pastrnak if they want to win the Stanley Cup.
