The New York Islanders visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday Oct. 6 in the season opener for both teams. Here’s how to watch via live stream.

Friday, Oct. 6 features three NHL games on the schedule. Virtually every team has played their season opener, but a few haven’t. Two of the latter are the New York Islanders and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets will host the Islanders at Nationwide Arena on Friday in the season opener for both teams. While the puck drop is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. ET, keep in mind there will likely be a delay due to pregame ceremonies.

Last season, the Islanders went 1-2-1 against the Blue Jackets. They struggled to stop them, allowing 18 goals while scoring just four. However, the Islanders split their two games against the Blue Jackets following the firing of Jack Capuano. Doug Weight had the Isles playing extremely well, as they nearly rebounded from an abysmal first half to make the postseason.

The Islanders are hoping the addition of forward Jordan Eberle can help the Islanders improve their scoring. Combined with captain John Tavares, the two should form a lethal duo. With Anders Lee flanking them on the left side, that’s a fairly deadly top line. The trio scored 82 goals last season.

However, the loss of Travis Hamonic is big for their defense. The Islanders are hoping their young defensemen can step up. Goaltender Thomas Greiss will get the start in net, hoping to continue his success under Weight.

More from New York Islanders

On the other side of the ice, the Blue Jackets finished third in the Metropolitan Division last season. And they’re looking to improve this season after acquiring Artemi Panarin from the Chicago Blackhawks. Calder Trophy finalist Zach Werenski will look to avoid a sophomore slump.

Reigning Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky will not be getting the start tonight, as it appears Joonas Korpisalo will get the start instead. Bobrovsky is expected to start on Saturday against the Blackhawks.

Expect a high scoring game, featuring two high octane offenses. With Bobrovsky out, the Islanders might have a bit of an edge in goal. Which Isles team will show up? Can the Blue Jackets replicate their success from last season? This game should help provide the answers.
