Twitter did not take kindly to the Ottawa Senators jersey reveal for the NHL100 Classic.

The recent switch from Reebok to Adidas designing NHL jerseys has been a rough one. Especially since for the 2017-18 season, only a select few teams will get to wear an alternate sweater. And even then, it will only be during outdoor or special games. Perhaps no team suffered more than the Ottawa Senators who lost an amazing alternate home kit. Probably the best in the business.

To make matters worse, now they have to deal with having an awful NHL100 Classic seater. On Dec. 16, 2017, the Senators will host the Montreal Canadiens in an outdoor game at Landsdowne Park. And they’ll be wearing a hideous looking jersey while doing so.

The Canadiens sweater is pretty clean. It’s hard to come up with a color combination that doesn’t work out when you have great colors, but Montreal still does a very good job in creating a unique look. While it’s not flashy, it certainly works. The silver is a bit of a weird touch, but the red and blue make up for it.

Now let’s get to whatever the Senators are wearing. First of all, why isn’t the primary color black? Ottawa had a great alternate sweater. This was Adidas’ excuse to do their own thing to it and repackage it. But nope, they went with an even more awful version of their primary home sweater. This was seen by many as Adidas’ first real test, and Adidas gets a deserving failing grade.

The dumbest thing about this is the silver. You see that text? That’s for their Stanley Cups. There’s just one issue – the Senators franchise as we know it has never won a Stanley Cup. Yes, a franchise named the Ottawa Senators won a Stanley Cup. But they ceased to exist in 1934. If the Senators wanted to honor them, that’s fine. But don’t claim titles that aren’t yours.

Naturally, when something looks silly, Twitter is all over it. Roasting things is a time-honored tradition on social media. The wannabe comedians come out of their hiding place and roast you. Here are some of the best reactions from the Ottawa Senators revealing their NHL 100 Classic sweaters.
