Jaromir Jagr’s tenure with the Calgary Flames has come to an end

Very few players have been able to accomplish what forward Jaromir Jagr has on the ice. His NHL career has spanned three decades. Had he made his NHL debut a season earlier, this would be his fourth decade. However, it appears old age has finally caught up to Jagr after all these years. The Calgary Flames signed him in October, but he never seemed like a fit with just seven points in 22 games.

According to Bob McKenzie, the Flames have put him on waivers. Jagr will reportedly pursue options in Europe. But it’s safe to say this might be the end of his NHL career. He’s been plagued this season by injuries.

This is likely due to Jagr getting signed so late because he typically prepares himself ahead of the season. But with the signing happening so late, he didn’t get a chance to prepare like he usually does.

If this is the last time Jagr is in the NHL, this is a sad way for it to end. The end of his NHL career would come during the All-Star weekend. Jagr deserves a much grander send-off, as only Wayne Gretzky has more career points than his 1,921.

One thing is for certain. Jagr will not be playing in the Olympics, as the rosters have already been set. There are some loopholes that could get him to South Korea, but they require very special circumstances. Ones that are difficult to achieve.

Through his career, Jagr has played for nine teams. He is perhaps most famous for his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers. Jagr won back-to-back Stanley Cups and four scoring titles with the former. With the latter, he won a Pearson Award as the player’s pick for the most outstanding player.

Jagr’s NHL career could be coming to an end. And it’s a darn shame this quiet release might be the last time he’s associated with the NHL as an active player.
