According to the latest NHL trade rumors, the Winnipeg Jets could have interest in New York Rangers forward Rick Nash

The Winnipeg Jets rarely find themselves as buyers. This is one of the few seasons they’ve been a playoff caliber team at the NHL trade deadline. They’re taking a pretty aggressive approach as they look to acquire a top-six forward. The latest NHL trade rumors have them potentially pursuing New York Rangers forward Rick Nash.

These rumors come from Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.

The Jets have a pretty good prospect pool and, except for a 2019 third-round pick belonging to the Vegas Golden Knights, all of their own draft picks for the next two years. Plus an additional 2018 fifth-round pick received from the Boston Bruins. This makes the Jets a nice fit with the Rangers’ reportedly high price tag for Nash.

Winnipeg is looking to add someone to play on their second line with Wheeler and Little once Scheifele returns to his first line center duties. Nash would be a perfect fit. He can score and, more importantly, he’s a heck of a two-way player. The Jets could use his defensive play badly, as their forwards aren’t overly impressive on defense.

Nash’s skill set would allow him to play just about anywhere in the Jets’ lineup. He’s a great fit for their potential four skilled lines strategy. Even though Nash is having a bit of a down year, he’s been a very consistent 20 goal scorer. And in Winnipeg, he wouldn’t have the pressure of having to be one of their best forwards.

The Jets have the cap space to be able to take on Nash without having to ask the Rangers to retain salary. He would be an interesting fit in Winnipeg, but will they be willing to be the likely expensive price?
