According to the latest NHL trade rumors, TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting Rick Nash has given the New York Rangers his 18-team no-trade list.

It’s that time of the year. NHL teams start asking their players with no-trade clauses to submit their list of teams they must give permission to be traded to. Rick Nash is one of the top rental forwards available and has been the subject of many NHL Trade Rumors. This was merely a formality, but the New York Rangers have asked Nash to give the team his 18-team no-trade list.

In other words, the forward can be traded to 12 teams without being asked. This doesn’t mean Nash can’t be traded to one of the 18 teams on his no-trade list, but he must grant permission for that to happen.

He also has a no-movement clause, which means he can’t be put on waivers or sent down to the minors without his consent. However, that NMC is largely irrelevant since Nash will be a free agent after this season.

There’s no way fans can know which teams are on it unless details get leaked. However, back in 2016, Nash reportedly didn’t have any Canadian teams on his 12 team trade list.

So don’t be surprised if that’s the case this season as well. Nash probably only has to worry about the Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Jets have reportedly expressed interest in him.

Rangers fans should expect at least a second-round pick for him. A first-round pick plus a top prospect is extremely realistic. It’s hard to gauge this market, especially since the Matt Duchene trade threw a monkey wrench into the trade market.

Nash will be one of the biggest dominos to fall and likely one of the first as well. In a market with a lot of buyers, the Rangers will likely be able to raise his asking price to a first-round pick plus more.
