The usual trade buzz is circulating before the NHL trade deadline. With JohnTavares staying put in New York, whispers have begun on other high-profile players. Here’s who fantasy hockey owners should keep an eye on.
Some fantasy hockey owners might wonder what to do with certain guys before the playoffs roll around. Every year, fans see a few deadline acquisitions help out their NHL teams and fantasy owners on the scoring sheet.
Here are a few trade candidates to keep your eye on in the fantasy world.
Trade Candidates
1. Max Pacioretty – LW – Montreal Canadiens
After the P.K Subban trade, all eyes were on Max Pacioretty to lead his club. With a new coach and minimal offensive support, trade buzz has been built around “Patches”. The 29-year old will command a high price, but if he gets traded to a playoff team his numbers are almost guaranteed to go up.

Mrazek’s Restricted Free Agent status makes his trade value that much higher. The Wings have been showcasing the 25-year old, he’s 4-1-1 in his last six starts. If Mrazek were to get traded, he would start the bulk of the games down the stretch. A team like the Islanders would blow up Mrazek’s fantasy value.
3. Derick Brassard – C – Ottawa Senators
Centers. You can never have too many of them. With the Senators looking at a lottery pick, the veteran center is expendable. Brassard’s modified no-trade clause and affordability make him a prime trade candidate and a late-season fantasy stud.
4. Radim Vrbata – RW – Florida Panthers
The 36-year old has never been traded at the deadline and that’s likely to change. The veteran winger has 13 points in 35 games this season and would benefit in the change of scenery. He’s a low-risk-high-reward trade target. If he goes to a contender, scoop him up.

5. Thomas Vanek – RW – Vancouver Canucks
Vanek is no stranger to trade deadlines. If he’s traded, he’s worth a look. The 34-year old is on pace for his second 50-point season since 2011. The veteran’s price tag won’t be high, so a team looking for power play help might pull the trigger
