The Pittsburgh Penguins got a huge road win in Game 3 to take a 2-1 series lead over the Philadelphia Flyers

92. Final. 1. 68. 5

So far, the series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers has been like a boxing match. Each team has dealt and been dealt their fair share of blows. After getting blown out in Game 2, Pittsburgh managed to get a 5-1 win over Philadelphia to take a 2-1 series lead.

Though the Broad Street Bullies had an excellent first period, they fell behind thanks to an outstanding play by Sidney Crosby. Also, Pens goaltender Matt Murray bounced back from a rough Game 2. During his short career, he is now 9-1 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a loss. That’s mighty impressive.

Crosby went on to put off three more points, each of them assists. The Flyers weren’t able to recover after their first period. Only a goal by defenseman Travis Sanheim kept Philly from being shutout at home.

Three stars

  1. In Game 2, Sidney Crosby was a bit snakebit. He was prevalent in the game but got denied on several excellent chances. Sid The Kid bounced back very strong in Game 3, providing a highlight-reel goal with three assists. He was involved in all but one of Pittsburgh’s goals in Game 3.
  2. Pens goaltender Matt Murray has a stellar resume in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After a very rough Game 2, only Sanheim’s goal prevented him from notching another shutout. Murray was especially impressive in the first period, keeping Philadelphia from getting out to an early lead.
  3. Evgeni Malkin continued his postseason dominance, putting up a goal and an assist. His line created numerous dangerous chances throughout the game.
