Entering Monday, the Golden Knights are the betting favorites. But don’t count out the Capitals, who have topped the Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Tampa Bay Lightning, exorcising some postseason demons along the way.
Washington is led by captain Alex Ovechkin, who has 12 goals in the postseason, the most of any player remaining. Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the remaining players with 24 points in 19 games. Goaltender Braden Holtby concluded the Eastern Conference Final with two consecutive shutouts.
Meanwhile, Vegas is led by goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. He’s having one of the finest postseasons a goaltender has ever had, posting a .947 save percentage and allowing just 1.68 goals per game. Reilly Smith, Jonathan Marchessault, and William Karlsson lead the team in points. Marchessault also leads the team with eight goals.

The Capitals come into the Stanley Cup Final riding a wave of momentum after eliminating the Lightning. But then again, so does Vegas. It should be interesting to see who wins Game 1. The series will likely come down to which goalie plays together. No matter who wins, a franchise will pick up their first Stanley Cup Final win. You can’t ask for more than that as a hockey fan.
