Now that Alex Ovechkin has finally won the Stanley Cup, the NHL will have to pry it from his cold, dead hands
Each year, the Stanley Cup goes to the NHL champion. It’s a long and grueling process to win. Often when players win, they celebrate like it’s the happiest day of their life. Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has redefined the word “celebration” in just his first weekend with Lord Stanley.
Ovechkin is known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He genuinely loves to play the game of hockey and to score goals. Even non-Capitals fans had to be happy to see Ovechkin finally lift the Stanley Cup on Thursday night.
Let’s take a look at everything the Capitals captain has put Lord Stanley’s trophy through since winning it.
The First After Party
During the official after party, Ovechkin did various things with the cup. Firstly, like a true champion, he drank champagne from the Stanley Cup. Champagne is the choice drink of champions all across the world. Given Ovechkin’s Russian heritage, it’s surprising he didn’t put his own spin on the tradition by using vodka instead of champagne.

MGM Casino
The Stanley Cup technically left Las Vegas as the Capitals went to MGM Casino. Ovechkin paraded around the casino with his new best friend. Bystanders took videos and photos with the newest captain to win the Stanley Cup.
DC
On Saturday, the Capitals went wild. First, they went to a Nationals game, where Ovechkin threw two first pitches. When you win the Conn Smythe and you bring a Stanley Cup to DC, you can have as many mulligans as you want.
During the game, Ovechkin repeatedly lifted the Stanley Cup. After the game, Lord Stanley’s trophy got better acquainted with the area. Lots of shenanigans ensued.
