The NHL Draft 2018 is nearly upon us. Every team has an opportunity to trade picks for something they need, or to trade for draft picks to get something they need. Here’s the best trade for every team on draft day.

The NHL Draft 2018 is fast approaching, which means GMs are gathering in Dallas and are talking about trades. With a lot more cap space coming, this draft could see a bit more movement than in years previous. Every team has needs, and there are teams out there that could help them.

So without further ado, here’s the best trade each team can make during draft weekend.

Why the Anaheim Ducks make this trade: they get a goal-scoring right wing, exactly what they need for next season. Mark Stone can play a 200-foot game, is one of the best two-way wings in the NHL, and has scored at least 20 goals in each of the last four seasons. On a relatively bad team, that wasn’t offensively oriented.

Stone can play with Ryan Getzlaf or Ryan Kesler and do it well. That’s a good acquisition for the Ducks, and at 26, Stone is still well worth a first-round pick and a good prospect.

Why the Senators make this trade: they need draft picks and prospects, especially with all the talk of blowing up the core. Maxime Comtois is a solid prospect, posting 85 points in 54 games this season in the QMJHL. He’s got good goal-scoring prowess, and can potentially be a player for the Senators for years to come.

There are already rumors of teams potentially offer sheeting Stone, and while the Senators would still get something back, letting the winger leave with a better return is probably the better idea. Plus, it shows the Senators still have some competence as an organization and again, helps them in the future.
