The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed center Adam Lowry to a three-year deal worth nearly $9 million total in NHL free agency
After losing Paul Stastny to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Winnipeg Jets have been quiet in NHL free agency. However, now they’re starting to re-sign their own restricted free agents. Adam Lowry has agreed to a three-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets with a $2.917 million cap hit. This will be worth about $8.75 million over the three-year period.
Last season, Lowry scored eight goals and 13 assists for a total of 21 points in 45 games. He has been with the Jets since he was selected 67th overall at the 2011 draft. Lowry played under a season’s worth of games in the AHL before moving up to Winnipeg. With the Jets’ AHL affiliates St. John’s Icecaps and Manitoba Moose, he recorded 38 points in 77 games.

Lowry has spent the majority of his professional career in the NHL. Over four seasons, he has put up 41 goals and 49 assists for a total of 90 points in 281 games with the Jets. Lowry had the chance to appear in the postseason. The Jets went on an exciting run to the semi finals, but he was not much help, picking up only two points in 17 playoff games. However, that’s a rather small sample size.
Regardless, Lowry still had a successful season. He was on pace for 38 points, a career high for him. This upcoming season, Lowry could very well be a 40 point player. The Jets are obviously having no scoring issues, but it never hurts to have more talent.
Additional analysis of the Lowry signing
Lowry’s advanced stats look terrific. He posted a team-leading 56.6 corsi for percentage, and a 58.8 fenwick for percentage. This leaves him with a relative corsi of 4.8 percent and a relative fenwick of 7.1 percent.
With his low point totals, it’s pretty safe to assume that he played some stellar defense this season. Despite not being very strong in the offensive zone, he makes up for it at the other end of the ice.
Despite his fantastic advanced stats this season, Lowry still seems very inconsistent from year to year.
As seen on the graph, his stats are all over the map. This makes it hard to know if this season is an outlier or not. Before I can declare how brilliantly underrated he is, he needs to start putting up consistently better numbers.

Conclusion
It’s hard to know who Lowry really is. If he doesn’t really have a fantastic corsi percentage, then he doesn’t have much going for him other than being a decent bottom-six scorer. If he does, then he can be a superb defensive-minded forward.

Hopefully, he can keep capitalizing on the best parts of his game, and prove that he is as good as his advanced stats from this season would suggest.
