Ottawa Senators

Alright, we’ve seen the quick summary. Let’s take a look at the entirety of Marian’s career. This way, we can come to really appreciate how talented he is. Hossa was selected 12th overall in 1997 by the Ottawa Senators.

Because it’s always fun to do, Iet’s laugh at the teams who had the chance to draft Hossa, but instead selected someone else. For example, at sixth overall, the Calgary Flames selected Daniel Tkaczuk, who played a total of 19 NHL games, scoring 11 points.

At 10th overall, the Vancouver Canucks selected Brad Ference, a fairly average defenseman who scored 34 points in 250 career games. Lastly, the Montreal Canadiens selected forward Jason Ward at 11th, who scored 81 points in 336 career games.

After Hossa was drafted, he would play seven seasons with Senators. In 467 games with the Sens, he recorded 390 points. His most successful season in Ottawa would be 2002-03, where he led his team to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Unfortunately, the Senators were eliminated by the eventual Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils in a tight series going the full seven games. After the lockout season in 2004-05, Hossa was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in a deal seeing Dany Heatley moved to the Sens. This ended his tenure in Ottawa.
