Buffalo Sabres suspend Patrik Berglund indefinitely for failing to report
In what’s turning out to be a heck of a saga, the Buffalo Sabres have announced PatrikBerglund has been suspended indefinitely for failing to report to the team.
The Buffalo Sabres are finally starting to win some games. They haven’t made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the 2010-11 season, but as of Dec. 15, they sit in a playoff spot. This surge has been led by a 10 game winning streak.
However, not everything is perfect for the Sabres. Recently, Patrik Berglund has missed the past few games due to some apparent illness. Which is why it’s odd the team announced on Saturday, Dec. 15 that they’ve suspended him indefinitely for refusing to report to the team.

This isn’t even the first time this season a team from Buffalo has had this issue. Cornerback Vontae Davis left the Bills during halftime and retired from football. However, this is just freaking weird.
There are a ton of questions to be answered. Most of them stem around the issue of Berglund’s illness. Was he truly sick? It’s worth noting Berglund has also missed time this season due to injuries and has been a healthy scratch on more than one occasion. He didn’t take the latter too well, either.
What makes this even stranger is Berglund’s contract status. He still has three years left on his deal and has an annual cap hit of $3.85 million. Additionally, Berglund is owed $9.85 million in salary after this season.
Complicating the matter is his modified no-trade clause, though it wouldn’t be surprising if he would be willing to waive it. But who would be willing to take a chance on him? Could the Sabres be heading towards a buyout?
This season, Berglund has two goals and two assists for four points in 23 games. He has seen his playing time cut by over three minutes. The Sabres acquired Berglund as a part of the Ryan O’Reilly trade with the St. Louis Blues.
