Do the Philadelphia Flyers have a new goalie problem?
The Philadelphia Flyers have had a goalie problem since Bernie Parent retired. Always just a solid goalie away from winning The Cup, suddenly the Flyers may have a different goalie problem. And it’s a good one.
Unless you have been watching hockey under a rock, you have surely heard that the Philadelphia Flyers have a goalie problem …again. If you haven’t heard, the Flyers have used a shocking seven different goaltenders this year, and we just made it to the halfway point of the season.

Flyers fans finally got their wish for Carter Hart to make the big club. This 20-year-old phenom is the future of the Philadelphia organization. Suddenly, the future is now. Hart finally got the call, and was having a little bit of a rough road.
With four wins in a row including impressive performances against Boston and Winnipeg, Hart is showing the chops that earned him two CHL Goaltender of the Year Awards, the WHL Player of the Year in 2018, as well as backstopping Canada to the gold medal in the 2018 World Juinior Championship.
With the Flyers playing back to back games coming out of the All Star Break, Hart was given the night off on Tuesday after frustrating the Jets, stopping all but one of the 32 shots sent his way. Anthony Stolarz would get the start against the hated Rangers in the Garden. Flyers fans, myself included, cringed at the thought. This was to be Stolarz first game of the season after major knee surgery. He would be rusty and slow; he would fold under the pressure of the Rangers.
Another Solution to the Goalie Problem?
Stolie the Goalie apparently paid no mind to the teeth gnashing of Flyers fans on social media and pitched a shut out in Madison Square Garden. The Flyers were outshot 38 to 19 overall, managing only three shots in the second period and all of four shots in the third. Stolarz took the lone goal, scored by Oskar Lindblom just 1:40 into the game, and made it stand for the Flyers fifth win in a row. It was pure, unadulterated larceny.

With that shut out, Anthony Stolarz may have changed a goalie problem into a goalie controversy. With the Flyers currently ten points out of a playoff spot, that is a problem that the Flyers will gladly deal with.
