According to the latest NHL trade rumors, the Vegas Golden Knights have rekindled their interest in Mark Stone.

The Vegas Golden Knights are looking to add a piece who would help them keep up with the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks. If they want to repeat their magic from last season, they need to add a forward of some kind. Vegas is swinging big, according to the latest NHL trade rumors. They found Mark Stone to be a bit pricey, but according to Elliotte Friedman, they’re back in on him.

Stone would be a significant addition to the Knights. He’s one of the NHL’s top forwards and can produce with the best of them.

On top of that, Stone makes a huge impact all over the ice, as he’s one of the league’s best all-around 200-foot players.

This season, he has 62 points in 59 games, which is two away from his career high. Stone has already set a career high in goals with 28.

Though he will be a free agent on July 1, he’s reportedly open to signing an extension. It would, however, cost a lot to sign him. But the Golden Knights have a bit of cap space, so keeping him around long-term is at worst plausible.

As far as what it would cost for them, it’s not a secret the Senators like Cody Glass a lot. They reportedly asked for him while the Knights were asking about Erik Karlsson at last year’s NHL trade deadline. Vegas backed away once his name came up, though.

Also, it’s worth noting the Golden Knights have already traded Nick Suzuki to the Montreal Canadiens for Max Pacioretty.

If they traded Glass, that would be two of their three initial draft picks. When Vegas traded Suzuki, it was for someone who they almost immediately signed to a long-term deal. I wouldn’t rule out Glass getting traded, but it would have to be for a long-term piece.

The price is high for Stone, but the Golden Knights are one of the few teams with a plausible chance of re-signing him. So don’t be surprised if Vegas finds a way to get something done. One would have to imagine they aren’t parting with Glass or any top prospect unless they’re extremely confident something can be worked out.
