The Arizona Coyotes have announced forward Conor Garland has signed a two-year extension reportedly worth $775,000 annually.

Forward Conor Garland has been a bit of a pleasant surprise for the Arizona Coyotes this season. He’s emerged as one of their most effective players after his impressive play in the AHL forced a call-up. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Coyotes announced they have signed Garland to a two-year extension. He was scheduled to be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2018-19 season.

While the Coyotes do not release financial terms of their contracts, Craig Morgan of The Athletic is reporting it’s worth $750,000 in 2019-20 and $800,000 in 2020-21. This means he will have an average annual value, or cap hit, of $775,000.

Garland was drafted by the Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Born in Massachusetts, he spent his junior career with the Monkton Wildcats. In the CHL, Garland twice led the league in scoring (2015-16 and 2016-17), totaling 257 points between those two seasons.

He was named an AHL All-Star this season after putting up 19 points in 18 games with the Tucson Roadrunners. Since being called up, Garland has appeared in 36 games, scoring 12 goals (fourth on the Coyotes this season) and picking up three assists for 15 points. Overall, he ranks tied for 14th among Arizona skaters this season in points.

Garland ranks first among all Arizona forwards in CorsiFor percentage with a 53.96% raw rating and a +6.42% relative rating. He has been an integral member of their second power-play unit, averaging 2:28 of ice time per game during power plays.

At only 22 years old, Garland still has room to grow. He’s already proven to be a very effective top nine forward and has the potential to stick in the top six if he can continue to develop his scoring touch.
