Anaheim Ducks finalize Jakob Silfverberg extension

The Anaheim Ducks have signed Jakob Silfverberg to a five year, $26.25 million extension that will keep him a Duck until the end of the 2023-24 season.
On March 3, 2019, the Anaheim Ducks officially announced they’ve extended 28-year-old forward, Jakob Silfverberg. The deal is for five years and is worth $26.25 million. This newly signed contract will expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, making Silfverberg a Duck for a long time.
He has been having a decent 2018-19 season campaign thus far, leading the Ducks in goals. In the 2018-19 season, Silfverberg has scored 16 goals, tallied 8 assists, and clocked 26 penalty minutes. With a total of 24 points this season, he is fourth on the team with points.

In 475 NHL games, Silfverberg has scored 109 goals and registered 124 assists. There is no question that he has been one of the consistently best players for the Ducks in the last four season, averaging over 30 points per season.
The Swedish forward was originally drafted 39th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. After around three seasons with the Senators organization, he was traded along with Stefan Noesen and a first-round draft pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Level Draft to the Ducks for Bobby Ryan.
Ever since joining the Ducks, he has been an offensive contributor and a weapon in the playoffs. In 69 NHL Playoff games, Silfverberg has scored 18 goals and tallied 27 assists (totaling 45 points). With about 0.65 points per game, he has been clutch in the playoffs and is hoping to provide that spark in the future.

Although the Anaheim Ducks have been struggling in the 2018-19 season, locking up the 6’1” and 202 pound right winger is the right move. Silfverberg is about to hit his prime and will be a good leader for a younger group of guys joining the rebuilding team. It seems that the young Swede has been building good chemistry with his line alongside Rickard Rakell. It seems this line will continue to be a driving force in the future.
