On Thursday, April 11, the Colorado Avalanche visit the Calgary Flames to start their Stanley Cup Playoffs series. Here’s how you can watch.

On Wednesday, April 10, the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs couldn’t have asked for a more exciting opening night. Thursday’s slate of games could be even better. The evening will end with a showdown between the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche. This game is set to start at 10:00 p.m. EST at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.

This game can be viewed on NBCSN nationally in the United States. In Canada, you can turn to CBC, Sportsnet, and TVAS. Locally, it will be on ALT in Colorado.

The Flames come in as the top seed in the Western Conference. They finished second in the NHL in goals scored and also allowed the ninth fewest goals.

Captain Mark Giordano is the Norris Trophy favorite and leads their impressive blueline. Meanwhile, Johnny Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm, Matthew Tkachuk, and Sean Monahan highlight their deep forward group.

On the other side of the ice, the Avalanche come in as the underdogs. They are led by 2017-18 Hart Trophy Finalist Nathan MacKinnon and captain Gabriel Landeskog. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer is hoping for a better individual postseason than last year. But at the same time, he’s also hoping for a similar outcome from a team perspective, as he was the backup goaltender for the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals.

Colorado, for the second straight playoffs, has to face the top seed in the Western Conference. Last year, they took the Nashville Predators to six games. They’re hoping for a better outcome this time around.

Ultimately, this series could come down to the goaltending. The Flames have the better skaters, but it’s impossible to overlook the Avalanche’s advantage in net. If Calgary struggles early, things could get interesting. They will start off with Mike Smith, who has done well lately, in net. If he falters, the Flames also have David Rittich.
