2019 NHL Awards: Kenan Thompson will be great as host for annual event
The 2019 NHL Awards will be hosted by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson, someone Disney fans will recognize as Russ Tyler from The Mighty Ducks franchise.
The 2019 NHL Awards just became a big deal for 20 and 30-something-year-olds who enjoyed Disney’s Mighty Ducks franchise. Kenan Thompson, star of the iconic Saturday Night Live sketch comedy show, will be the host of this year’s award show.
People might also remember him from the 1990s Nickelodeon sketch comedy show All That or his sitcom Kenan & Kel with All That co-star Kel Mitchell. For those who don’t remember, or might not know, Thompson is also known as Russ Tyler, the creator of “Knuckle-Puck Time” from D2: The Mighty Ducks.

The Mighty Ducks franchise was iconic for any hockey fan growing up in the 1990s. It was also a prominent force in creating excitement for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks franchise in the NHL.
Known now as the Anaheim Ducks, the Disney influence on the team lasted for several years, and the team can also be seen rocking their classic Mighty Ducks jerseys from time to time. Thompson played a major role in creating that excitement for the California-based franchise, something that was needed during a time of doubt surrounding hot-climate NHL teams.
The NHL Awards have become increasingly enjoyable with better content. It is obvious the NHL has made it a point to improve the overall experience for fans and it is clear that the players enjoy the night as well.
There are plenty of stars in the NHL and, with a plethora of awards to be handed out, there is no better night for the bearded brutes to show up in classy gear with their significant other or family.
Thompson will bring a healthy dose of comedy, and fans will hope that some sketch comedy makes its way to the award show. It is certainly one of his specialties, and there are always plenty of storylines to play within the NHL. Toronto Maple Leafs fans need to be careful. There is a good chance they will bud of several jokes come showtime.
Could we expect some reminiscing moments of the good ol’ days? One would hope that an appearance from a few of his cast mates may be in order. There’s only one way to find out. Tune into the NHL Awards on June 19 at 8PM EST. It should be loads of fun with Thompson leading the show.
