If your team is out of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, have no sweat. Each of the final four has a beloved veteran who you definitely would not mind hoisting the Stanley Cup.

The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been unbelievable to watch. With all the upsets and early knockouts, anything can happen and the four teams left are filled with incredible storylines. From the St. Louis Blues being dead last in the league in January to the fan favorite Carolina Hurricanes and their creative postgame celebrations, this year’s playoffs have been nothing short of a miracle.

On top of that, each of the four teams has a player that everyone can root for, despite your original allegiances. Here are the four veterans who we should be rooting for to win the Stanley Cup:

San Jose Sharks: Joe Thornton

More from Puck Prose

San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton is one of the most beloved players in the game right now. From his massive beard to his sense of humour, many fans have a soft spot for Thornton as he is such a lovable guy.

He is so humble that it’s borderline annoying and his teammates have nothing negative to say about him. Thornton is the face of the franchise and is the leader that everyone in the locker room would die for.

Last season, he suffered a torn ACL and MCL and this year, he’s 39 years old. The sun is setting on his Hall of Fame career and this could be his last chance to finally win his first ever Stanley Cup.

St. Louis Blues: Pat Maroon

Last summer, Pat Maroon took a discount to play in his hometown and to be with his son in St. Louis. Well, thanks to that decision, he propelled the St. Louis Blues into their first Conference Final appearance in three years with the game-winning goal in double overtime.

The video of his son crying in reaction to the goal went viral and Patrick Maroon became a Blues’ hero. Seeing him lift the Stanley Cup in his hometown would be incredible to watch.

Carolina Hurricanes: Justin Williams

Mr. Game 7 is a fan favourite everywhere, not just in Carolina. He earned the name by going 8-1 in Game 7’s, with a ridiculous production rate when the stage is the brightest. Justin Williams has been in the NHL for 18 years and yet he is still going strong.

In his 18 year career, he has won 3 Stanley Cups, his first one being with the Hurricanes back in 2006. How cool would if be if he could finish his career by bringing the Cup back to Carolina one more time?

Boston Bruins: Patrice Bergeron

The Boston Bruins do not have the most lovable players league-wide, but there is one player that everyone can agree is an amazing human being. Patrice Bergeron is the one person who has been untainted by the Bruins’ and is one of the classiest players in the league. He is the ultimate professional and has had an illustrious career, including a Stanley Cup and two Olympic gold medals.

In the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, the Boston Bruins were trailing 3-2 in the series and Bergeron had a punctured lung, a broken rib, and a separated shoulder. He still stuck it out and played Game 6 to try and even the series out but the Bruins ended up losing. After the game, he even did a press conference before going to the hospital to literally fix his entire body.

His dedication to the game is unmatched and everyone – from the players to the fans – recognizes the amount of dedication he has to the game. Seeing him win his second Stanley Cup and having Boston complete the sports championship sweep would be quite the sight to see.
