4. New York Islanders

How awkward would it be for New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello to call up his old team and ask about Taylor Hall? That’s like calling up your ex four years after you dumped her to ask if they can give you your sweatshirt back. However, the regional and division rivals should have a conversation about Hall because the Islanders could really use someone like him.

Last season, the Isles struggled to score goals. Luckily, they were very good at preventing them. But still, the Islanders are going to target offense this summer. Re-signing Brock Nelson likely takes them out of the running for Matt Duchene and Kevin Hayes. And as much as Panarin would make sense for them, he’s likely heading to Florida or the New York Rangers.

Hall is the next best option to Panarin. Sure, he doesn’t come with a huge deal. But the Islanders aren’t far away from being serious Stanley Cup contenders. Hall would elevate the Isles offense and give them a wing who can make magical things happen.

If the Devils are looking for prospects, the Islanders are a great fit. Oliver Wahlstrom, Noah Dobson, Kiefer Bellows, and Anthony Beauvillier are all players the Devils could have interest in. The Islanders have a deep pipeline of prospects, so unless New Jersey really wants a center prospect, they have what it takes to make a very competitive offer for him.

That said, who knows if the Islanders would trade for Hall without an extension in place? After the John Tavares fiasco and the potential Anders Lee fiasco, they probably don’t want to play that game again anytime soon.
