Anheuser-Busch is showing its support for its hometown St. Louis Blues with special commemorative Bud Light bottles. The bottles with also pay tribute to the unlikely victory song “Gloria”.

In addition to being home to the newly crowned Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues, St. Louis is also home to another beloved American institution. That, of course, is the Anheuser-Busch brewery.

Anheuser-Busch has a long history associated with St. Louis’s other professional sports team, the St. Louis  Cardinals of Major League Baseball, being a former owner of the team as well as holding naming rights to the stadium.

After their first championship in franchise history, Anheuser-Busch wasn’t about to have the city’s hockey team go unrecognized.

St. Louis loves its beer almost as much as it loves its sports. It’s a unique and fun way for the brewery to commemorate the Blues incredible season and their unlikely rallying cry of “Gloria”. In a city that’s made more sports headlines for football teams leaving than sports success the past few seasons, it’s nice to see their fans have something to celebrate and the town and its industries get behind it.

The brewery has been very supportive in their Blues fandom throughout the playoff run. The brand’s mascot, the Bud Light Knight, changed his twitter name to “Gloria” in support and held a contest to give out two tickets to game four in St. Louis.

Interestingly, the Bud Light Knight was seen on TV prior to the game one broadcast holding a “Go Bruins” sign, causing a minor controversy among St. Louis faithful. In addition, prior to game 3, Anheuser-Busch and the Blues collected ice from the Enterprise Center for use at local bars and other places in the area to chill Bud Light beer using actual ice the St. Louis Blues skated on. But for Anheuser-Busch, the Bud Light tie-in wasn’t enough.

From Fox 2 Now:

"“We’re so proud of our hometown Blues for bringing home their first Stanley Cup. We plan on celebrating with special championship Bud Light bottles during the parade and have a few more surprises brewing for Blues fans and the city of St. Louis,” said Andy Goeler,  Bud Light’s Vice President of Marketing."

While Anheuser-Busch may be the beer that’s most associated with St. Louis, it interestingly is not the “official” beer of the NHL. That distinction belongs to their rival, Coors Light. That hasn’t stopped individual NHL teams from forming sponsorships and alliances with Bud Light. if anything, this is a great marketing push for the NHL as a whole.

This is the second year in a row that Bud Light takes a special place in Stanley Cup celebrations. Last season, during the Washington Capitals celebrations T.J. Oshie chugged a Bud Light through his jersey in a moment much shared over social media.

In the post-game festivities following game seven last night, Blues players still on ice at TD Garden could be seen drinking from the famous blue cans as well.
