According to the latest NHL trade rumors, the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, and New York Islanders have all expressed interest in trading for defenseman Jacob Trouba.

One of the hottest names available on the trade market this season is Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba. He’s coming off a career season after finally showing what he was capable of. Trouba set career highs in various categories, including points. According to the latest NHL Trade Rumors, the Rangers, Islanders, and Devils are among the teams interested in him.

This report comes from Larry Brooks of The New York Post. Brooks has more information about what the Jets are seeking for him.

According to him, Winnipeg is seeking a first-round pick and either two top prospects or two young NHL players. That’s a high bar for a defenseman who has one year left on his contract.

For what it’s worth, the Jets haven’t given any team permission to speak to Trouba about a contract extension as of June 15. This might limit the return they can get for him unless they change their mind.

Pavel Buchnevich is a Rangers player who Brooks mentioned by name as far as who could be involved in a trade. He’s the kind of player the Jets would probably like to get in a return for Trouba.

Meanwhile, the Islanders have some intriguing options. Nick Leddy could be involved, as he would give the Jets another defenseman to replace Trouba. Anthony Beauvillier, Kieffer Bellows, Noah Dobson, Bode Wilde, and Oliver Wahlstrom are among the names who could be involved as well.

The Devils have a number of top prospects, including the recently signed Jesper Boqvist. Miles Wood would be an intriguing candidate as well, as he’s shown the ability to score goals. However, he had a down year in 2018-19.

Trouba would immediately become the best defenseman on each of the teams mentioned. He’d give them a first-pairing caliber right-handed defenseman to build their defense around. Trouba can play during all situations, as he proved last season with his power-play production.

Winnipeg holds all the cards here. They could simply elect to hang onto him for one more year, much like the Columbus Blue Jackets did with Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky. The Jets have a number of players to commit to this summer, including Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine. So expect Winnipeg to wait it out on Trouba until a team gives them a return they’re happy with.
